Marian students take part in the Walk for Hunger
For the past 48 years, hundreds of thousands of people of all ages have come together through the Walk For Hunger to raise money for programs that ensure people have access to healthy food. Nine Marian students met early Sunday morning May 7th with Theology Department Chair, Mr. McGarry to join this proud tradition. The group raised almost $500 and proudly donned their walk credentials at Boston Common. There was lots of free stuff, including sun glasses and sunscreen which turned out to be very useful as the weather was perfect. Entertainment along the way included cheerleaders, drummers, music and superheroes. Water was available at all checkpoints.
We kept a good pace as we walked down Commonwealth Ave and Beacon St but by Newton Center (7.5miles) we were feeling a bit tired. At 11.5 miles the Arsenal park snack stop was a welcome sight. Lots of food, music and encouragement was provided. Marian students have been participating in this event for many years. It’s a fun, easy way to positively impact the lives of countless people who rely on more than 300 anti-hunger programs. It is estimated that 225,000 households directly benefit from our efforts. Next year will be the 50th year and Marian will students will be there again!!
