Guest Speaker at Marian
On Monday March 6th, Dr. Marisa M. Silveri, PhD spoke to the Marian student body about the effects of drugs on the brain. Dr. Silveri is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Nueroscientist. as well as the Director at McLean Hospital of the Nuerodevelopmental Laboratory on Addictions and Mental Health. Dr. Silveri gave a presentation about brain development and the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse, followed by a question and answer session.
Dr. Silveri has been studying the nuerobiology of brain development and consequences of alcohol and drug abuse using preclinical and clinical models for two decades. Her current work uses non-invasive magnetic resonance techniques to examine brain structure, function, and neurochemistry. focusing on consequences of alcohol use and abuse.
Dr. Silveri is a recipient of awards from the Research Society on Alcoholism and the College of Problems on Drugs Dependence. She has received NIH funding from the NIAA, including two current R01s focusing on the impact of alcohol use on adolescent brain development and the nuerobiological consequences of bring drinking in emerging adults.
