National Honor Society Induction

Our chapter of the National Honor Society just had its induction ceremony on October 23 and is launching its projects for the year. The Marian chapter, which consists of forty-one (41) members, is led this year by its all-senior officer corps. They are: President – Januario Carreiro; Vice President – Declan Walsh; Secretary – Lillian Kurina; and Treasurer – Antonia Fantasia. The National Honor Society, built around the four qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service, has been for nearly a century among the most prestigious organizations in American high schools. It serves at the behest of the school’s principal and is dedicated to serving the needs of the school and the wider community.

Within our own school community, the Marian chapter in recent years has engaged in such activities as providing in-house tutoring, assisting at Parent Teacher Conferences, and helping to clean the area of our property abutting Learned Pond. By the same token, recognizing our involvement in the larger world, the chapter has worked with such organizations as Food for the Poor, Incorporated, the Shriners, and Doctors Without Borders. Thus far this year we have committed to renewing our support of the Shriners and to working with a new local group named Resiliency for Life. We are always open to suggestions about helping in some new venue.
