Lecture and discussion on the early                                              Sumerian civilization in the Fertile Crescent of the Tigris and Euphrates River                                          Valley. Homework -– Read Chapter 2 Section 2 “Invaders, Traders, and Empire                   Builders” Page 36--43. Page 35 “The Epic of Gilgamesh” Questions 1 & 2

 

 

Tuesday Sept 23--- Invaders, Traders, and Empire Builders. Lecture and discussion of the                                     development of early empires in Mesopotamia and the contributions of those                                   societies. Homework -– Read Chapter 2 Section 3 “Kingdom of the Nile” Page                               17-23. Page 39 Hittites Refine Chariot Questions 1 & 2.

 

 

Wednesday Sept 24–– Quiz Section 1 &2. Kingdom of the Nile. Witness History Video                                     “The Nile: Where Egypt Began. Lecture and discussion of the influence of the                                 Nile River on Egypt and the history of the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms.                           Homework -– Read Chapter 2 Section 4 “Egyptian Civilization” Page 50-

 

 

Thursday Sept 25- Video “Pyramid”. Students will complete study guide as they view video. 

                        Homework – Worksheets- “Imhotep” and “Instruction of Ptah-hotep”

 

 

Friday Sept 26 - Egyptian Civilization. Lecture and discussion on Egyptian religion, society,                                   arts, and science. Outside Reading Projects –Handout “The Book of the Dead”                             Due  Monday

Tuesday Sept 16 ---“Ice Man Project” Students use primary sources and artifacts to                              simulate the work of archeologists and anthropologists. Witness History                         Video “Secrets of the Iceman”.

 

 

Wednesday Sept 17 –– Video “Ice Man”. Students will complete study guide while viewing                       video. Homework -– Read Chapter 1 Section 3 “Beginnings of Civilization” Page                  17-23. Map Worksheet “Early River Valley             Civilizations” and Geography Quiz “Early Civilizations”

 

Thursday Sept 18- Beginnings of Civilization. Lecture and discussion on the rise and                             development of the first civilizations. Homework –Review Chapter 1 for Test on            Friday.

 

Friday Sept 19- Test - Chapter 1 The Foundations of Civilization (Prehistory-300 B.C.)
